fireworks over water

We all have our own ways that we celebrate bringing in the New Year. It usual involves counting down to midnight at a party with lots of friends and family. It may also include watching fireworks or kissing a romantic partner. Being in the midst of the covid pandemic, a lot of plans and events have been changed or modified to be safe and prevent the spread of covid. Here are eight ways to safely celebrate the new year.

  • Watch the ball drop from home. Hundreds of thousands of  people like to go to New York City at One Times Square, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin Eve, and watch the ball drop at midnight, which has been going on nearly every year since 1904. In order to avoid large crowds, stay home and watch the ball drop on your tv or mobile device
  • Set off your own fireworks. A great way to stay safe and celebrate is by buying some fireworks and sparklers and setting them off at night in front of your home, if it is permitted by local laws. Many firework stands pop up, like TNT or Galaxy Fireworks, in different locations in your local area.
  • Have a virtual countdown party. With your start videos calls and count down to the new year and pop confetti poppers at midnight. This is a good way to connect while being apart. For the little ones, you can do this at any earlier time if needed.
  • Count your blessings. This year has been a tough year for everyone. Write down the top 10 things you’re grateful for. You can frame them and put them on the wall or laminate them and put them on the fridge to remember positive things from the pandemic. Share with your friends and family through social media, email, or letter.
  • Make an early or late breakfast. After counting in the new year, make some breakfast for those celebrating with you before you go to bed.
  • Watch movies that remind you of starting over. New Year’s Eve is usually a long night for many people, so why not popping some popcorn and having a movie marathon. Some good movies to watch about starting over are The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, Forrest Gump,  or Bucket List.
