Jim Friedman (Adam Sandler), a widower, and Lauren Reynolds (Drew Barrymore), a divorcee go on a blind date to Hooters, which ends with Jim leaving early because the date is going bad. Lauren talks to her friend, Jen Palmer (Wendi McLendon-Covey) and Jim talks to his co-worker, Doug (Shaquille O’Neal) about the terrible date.

Lauren and Jim run into each other at a convenience store and their credit cards get messed up. Jim goes to Lauren’s house to return the card and hear’s Jen tell Lauren that she broke up with Jim’s boss, Dick. He calls his boss Dick and buys an African vacation for him and his three daughters. The daughters of Jim are high schooler Hillary (Bella Thorn), middle schooler, Espn (Emma Fuhrmann), and elementary school-aged, Lou (Alyvia Alyn Lind). The girls have short hair and are dressed in jumpsuits.  Lauren gets permission to use the vacation for her and her sons, Brendan (Braxton Beckham) and Tyler (Kyle Red Sliverstein) during spring break.

The two families end up in Africa for a blended familymoon together. Lauren and Jim share a table with oversexed couple Eddy (Kevin Nealon) and Ginger (Jessica Lowe), who is only a few years older than her new stepson, Jake (Zack Henry). Hillary develops a crush on Jake.

Over time the children begin to bond with each other and the other’s parents. Jim teaches Tlyer how to play baseball and boxes with Brendan. Lauren helps Hiliary look more feminine and plays games with Lou. The parents start warming up together and have fun doing a couple’s massage together. Lou asks Lauren to put her to bed and Lauren sings somewhere over the rainbow. Lauren ends up kissing each girl on the forehead as she leaves. Jim starts to face deep feelings about Lauren.

Espn is helped by Lauren to get over the death of her mother. During the last night of the trip, Jim made a special night with Lauren under the stars. They are close to kisses, then Jim says, “I can’t do it.” Lauren gets up and leaves. After returning to America, Jim realizes he loves Lauren and drives to her house to tell her how she feels. Lauren’s ex-husband, Mark is there. Mark tells Jim they are getting back together.

Lauren and Brendan support Tyler and his baseball game, along with Dick and Jen, who got back together. Mark does not go to the game. Jim and his daughters show up to the game and encourage Tyler. Tyler hits the baseball. Lauren and Tyler admit they love each other and kiss. This makes them a blended family.

Like in blended, families come from all different backgrounds and situations. Families do not have to be biological. They show up at different times in our life. The key is to work and support each other no matter the situation. We can make our families and be happy.
