Aptly named, the series finale of WandaVision reveals Agatha’s plan. She wants to drain Wanda of her magic, as she did her own coven back in the 1600s. While Wanda and Agatha face off, the newly-activated “White Vision” arrives to destroy Wanda and Vision. Wanda’s version of Vision arrives, and the two Visions also begin to fight while Tommy and Billy watch their parents helplessly from their bedroom.
Agatha releases the residents of Westview from Wanda’s spell, and they swarm Wanda to plead for their freedom back. Wanda finally realizes that she has been forcing her neighbors to experience her pain and grief, therefore torturing them while keeping them captive in Westview. When she becomes overwhelmed, she inadvertently begins choking everyone around her. This further proves Agatha’s point of Wanda’s potential danger to the world.
Horrified with what she has done, Wanda opens the Hex to allow them to leave (also allowing the S.W.O.R.D. agents to enter the Hex). However, this results in Vision, Tommy, and Billy slowly disintegrating, as they can only exist inside the Hex. Wanda quickly puts it back up to save them. Agatha shows her ther she must choose between saving her family or the freeing the people of Westview. She reminds her that, “Heroes don’t torture people.”
Bringing the Family Together
In the midst of all of this, Monica is being held captive by fake Pietro, who she discovers is actually Agatha’s long-missing “husband” Ralph, who is being mind-controlled through a necklace. She escapes and joins the action at the town square, where S.W.O.R.D. agents have just shown up.
Tommy and Billy use their powers to disarm the S.W.O.R.D. agents; however, Hayward quickly turns his gun on them. Monica arrives just in time to use her new powers to absorb the bullets and save the boys. Hayward then decides to run them down in a military vehicle, only to be thwarted by Darcy Lewis and her funnel cake truck.
Meanwhile, both versions of Vision have come to a deadlock in their fight. White Vision describes his directive to destroy Vision, and Wanda’s Vision explains that either of them is actually the true Vision, but merely pieces of him. After the Westview Vision uploads all of his memories, White Vision accepts that they are both fragmented versions of Vision, and he flies off.
Vision joins Tommy and Billy, and the three watch as Wanda continues her battle with Agatha. After Agatha promises to save her family, Wanda seemingly transfers the power of the Scarlet Witch to Agatha. However, it is revealed that Wanda cast marks throughout the Hex, therefore making herself the only witch capable of magic within it. After taking Agatha’s power and neutralizing her, Wanda completes her own transformation and becomes the true Scarlet Witch.
Do we give up what we want for the greater good?
Although successful in defeating Agatha, Wanda must face the consequences of her actions. She chooses to sacrifice her family in order to release the people of Westview, and the Hex slowly begins to shrink. Wanda allows her family time to say goodbye. She and Vision tuck Tommy and Billy into bed for the last time, and then they proceed downstairs to have a more intimate moment.
Wanda had her perfect world with a family who cared about her. She realized that she was torturing an entire town, but she gave it up when she became aware of what she was doing. What can be done for the greater good in your life? We can help others in their time of need or take steps for a cleaner environment.
During their goodbye,“Vision comments, “We have said goodbye before, so it stands to reason—” “—we’ll say hello again,” Wanda finishes. They seal this promise with a kiss, and the Hex fades out of existence. Wanda is left alone in an empty plot — exactly where she was before all of this started.
